The children had a great Sports Day yesterday! We were very lucky to have Wigan Warriors Community Foundation in school to deliver the activities and provide an excellent morning of fun and excitement for the children.
This week in Year 3, we have created a video news report to tell the amazing story of a boy who fell down, down, down and ended up back in the Stone Age.
The class reported on the various things that the boy did on his trip back in time and how he encountered a bear when he was doing cave paintings!
On Friday the last day of term we had some very spacial vistors from Bowland Farm, farmer Dave brought his animals to our school. Farmer Dave told us lots of facts about the animals, the animals were very friendly, and farmer Dave let us feed them with their special food.
During the visit we saw ducks, sheep, hens goats and alpacas. The hens laid an egg!
Mrs Yates and Miss Speakman chased the duck and caught it. In the afternoon Mrs Yates had to try to catch the goat but it was running too fast and she fell over oops!
Today the children in Year 2 have put the finishing touches on their sponge cakes that they followed instructions to make yesterday. They put jam and cream in the middle and a sprinkling icing sugar on the top. They look good enough to eat!
As part of our Ancient Egyptians topic, we took part in an architectural workshop building pyramids. During the afternoon, we discussed the properties of shapes and constructed square based pyramids using dowel rods and elastic bands. It was a brilliant afternoon with a fantastic end product!
Today we were very lucky to have Jason Jarrett , who is an ex Wigan Athletic player, in school to carry out a workshop about refereeing. Since retiring from football, Jason has joined the Lancashire Football Association as a referee. The children had chance to referee some games and gained a good understanding of refereeing as a career. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Yesterday (Thursday 19th May) year 4 went to visit Lancaster Castle . We had a fantastic time learning from our wonderful tour guide and really enjoyed ourselves walking round the castle and looking at the brilliant artefacts. The children behaved extremely well and the tour guide said "year 4 were a credit to St William's School!" Well done!
In Year 4 we have been learning about the Normans as part of our topic 'A Right Royal Battl.' The children have been designing and creating their own Norman shields, which has been lots of fun! We are up to the painting stage, this has took lots of concentration as we wanted to make sure they were perfect. We are hoping to have the finished shields very soon!
Wow! Another exciting week I'm year 3 has come to an end. We have found fractions of amounts in mathematics and been learning about the process of pollination. After all that, we had a tea party (with cakes) to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday! Happy birthday your majesty! 👑🎂☕️
